Abstract

Otto de Alencar Silva was without no doubt the most important Brazilian, nathematician from the late 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. He initiated in 1898, the rupture cycle of the teaching of the archaic mathematics in Brazi/ from Polytechnical School of Rio de Janeiro. He was a forerunner. ln this paper we show this facts: for instance, his reaction opposite to Comte 's positivist ideology on the brazilian mathematics.
