Abstract

The history of mineralogy and metallurgy in Brazil have been seen by different angles in the last years. The present case study about the Queiroz Júnior Plant sheds some light to the difficulties that challenged the establishment of the Brazilian siderurgic industry. Our study in mainly based on information provided by the chemist Carlos Dorival do Nascimento and documentation about him that yield excellent material to ponder over important issues related to this area in the 40 's.
