Abstract

Contemporo,y research on SETI (exobiology) from 1959 up to 1993 provides a ronge of interesting issues for historians: 1) epistemological features of exobiology; 2) its historical dimension, as parl of a long-tenn process of works and speculations done by astronomers and biologists; 3) its ideological, philosophical and religious constraints; 4) its different approaches: plurolism and singularism. The lack of an intemationa/lyaccepted parodigm efthe exobiology, which is the natural consequence of the absence of a clear object of analysis, has produced tensions among specialists and their hypothesis. The focus of this work is to provide an approach on the debates of the exobiology 's literature.
