Abstract

Mail exchanged between Otto de Alencar Silva and Francisco Gomes Teixeira is worth being brought out since it makes it possible for us to understand the way how many Math subjects produced in Europe during the final years of the last centurywere introduced in Brazil. Ottode Alencar was very well informed about what was being produced in Europe in the field ofMathematics, and by means of the mathematician Gomes Teixeira he received papers and textbooks which were taken and shown at Escola Politécnica do Rio de Janeiro, where he worked as a teacher.
