Abstract

ln this pape r we present a study on the history of mathematics in Brazil after colonial period up to 1980. We present, for example, the impact of various foreign mathematicians who carne to Brazil from 1934 onward, such as Luigi F antappie, Gabriel/e Mammana, André Weil, Oscar Zariski, Jean Dieudonné, A. Adrian Albert, Marshall H. Stone, Antonio A. Ribeiro Monteiro, Ruy Luís Gomes, among others.

Graduado em Matemática pela UFPR, Mestre pelo Instituto de Matemática da UFRJ e Doutor pela Universidade de São Paulo-USP. É Vice-Presidente da SBHC.
