Abstract

The primary documents and bibliography about the Academia Brasilica dos Esquecidos raised on the heap of the majors libraries and archives of Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon revealed an intense intellectual activity in Brazil, on the first half of 18th Century. In spite of its short duration these esquecidos produced a huge and important quantity of dissertations that lied on the background of the libraries and it is the theme of this essay. Even though the dissertations of the esquecidos are not on the top of the list of the main document about Brazilian Natural History, the dissertations presented here show us interesting aspects of the culture of saloon of 18th Century and aspects of the Brazilian relation with aspects of the nature, mainly climatic and astronomical aspects. The fact that Caetano de Brito e Figueiredo was a law graduate make that his dissertations about the Natural History been more interesting.
