Abstract

The second Brazilian Emperor D. Pedro II was keenly interested in the sciences. It is the purpose of this article to review his relationship with chemistry. Our starting point was his personal correspondence with Brazilian and foreign scientists, and with some scientific academies, from 1847 to 1881.
