Abstract

In the beginnings of XX century, a new University, modern, scientific and experimental, was created in the young city of La Plata, Argentina. One of the traits that characterized the National University of La Plata since its beginnings was the importance given to the “universitary extension”, considered one of the fundamental functions of the university, thus working on the spreading of knowledge outside the institution. This function was developed in several ambits and with diverse forms. The purpose of this work is to rescue those extension practices carried on in the Institute of Physics of the UNLP during the period 1905-1930, and to relate them with the concepts then in vogue about the relationship between science and society.
