Characteristic aspects of the institutionalization process of agricultural sciences in Brazil

Abstract

The role of some agricultural colleges in the institutionalization of agronomy in Brazil was the theme of a doctoral research. Some of its main results are presented in this article, especially the consequences of the movement for federal recognition in the process of specialization of this disciplinary field. This issue was fully supported by the Escola Nacional de Agricultura (ENA) (National School of Agriculture) as well as by the Ministry of Agriculture, with the purpose to raise the quality of other agricultural courses to the same standard of the ones in ENA, in order not to close them.
