Starting from positions linking this work with the current ecological and environmental history, this artiche explores the imagery arising in relation to plant resources, preservation and restoration in the hinterland of Argentina (Territorio Nacional de La Pampa), from the so-called “Conquest the Desert” in the late nineteenth century to the agro-ecological crisis the thirties. It takes into consideration the proposals for the setting in agricultural production and timber extraction that put at risk the ecosystem, in light of the observations of naturalists, scientists and travelers as well as those involved in the process.
