Abstract

We examine the historiography of chemistry in Brazilian journals that feature this kind of research articles in the period after the initial institutionalization of the history of science in the country. Our background is the debate between externalism and internalism. A comparison is suggested between the data obtained about the history of chemistry and the national production of the industrial chemical sector to inquire whether there could be a correlation between the economic basis and historiographical trends during this period.
