In 1817, the Italian physician Luis Vicente de Simoni arrived in Rio de Janeiro, where he lived for more than six decades, until his death, in 1881. In the city, while working in health institutions, he made translations and wrote literary pieces, some of them about medical themes. The aim of this paper is to understand the articulations between medicine and literature in these pieces.
