This article discusses the dissimulated military liaisons of scientific expeditions organized by National Bureau of Standards and National Geographic Society to observe the total solar eclipse of May 20, 1947, from Bocaiuva (MG). Our aim is to analyze a set of documents deposited in archives in Brazil and US using Science and Technology Studies’ theories, legitimating this approach inside of History of science. We will emphasize the interest on the results that could be found from solar eclipses observations – for their application on targeting systems of intercontinental missiles – as booster of the scientific practice.
