In 1897, segments of farmers from various states in the countrycreated the Sociedade Nacional de Agricultura (SNA), which had as one of its main objectives the popularisation of modern techniques in agriculture. To make public and implement the fulfillment of its purposes, the SNA began publishing his newsletter, called A lavoura. The time analyzed covers the years between 1897 and 1926, during which the SNA defended the application of science in agriculture, introduced a bill creating the Ministério da Agricultura, Indústria e Comércio and advocated a rational exploration of natural resources.
