Abstract

We discuss several factors, external to the physics research community in Argentina which, nevertheless, had some impact on its development in the years 1900- 66. Among other, we consider the impact of its range of international contacts; its professional involvement with physics teaching at different levels, and with engineering, industry and the armed forces in Aregntina. We also make reference to the gradual turning of the interest of Argentine physicists in the direction of the research topics dominant in the United States. Finally, we make a brief reference to the exodus of physicists from Argentina and to the impact of army’s patronage on physics there up to 1966.
