Abstract

In the 1870s, the British scientist William Crookes investigated phenomena then called “spiritualists”, relating them to a supposed “psychic force”. His results were not well received by the scientific community. Crookes insisted and conducted further experiments, which he reported in the article “Some further experiments on psychic force”. In it he also commented on the clash with George Stokes over the rejection of his results by the Royal Society. We present a translation of this article, accompanied by comments arising from the analysis of the correspondence between Crookes and Stokes, as well as the analysis of Crookes’ personal notes throughout the investigations.
