Abstract

Along the first decades of the 20th century the Brazilian government experienced a modernization process that included the construction of the Army´s cantonments, built by Roberto Simonsen. He was an engineer, an entrepreneur, a well-known representative of the industrial elite, and also a pioneer spokesman of Taylorism. By analyzing one of Simonsen´s publications, this paper aims to comprehend which taylorism´s principles were adopted into the construction of those military buildings.
