In this article we conducted a survey on the development and implementation of philosophical Trips made on the Portuguese colonies between 1777 and 1808. We emphasize in our analysis the theoretical tools created in the travel instructions that drove the actions of naturalists in the field. The creation of practices in Natural History, especially to collect, prepare, submit and transport products received great prominence in the intense process of implementation of travel, since it has very clear goals of recognition and appropriation of natural resources and served the colonial movement species, carried out in the practice of acclimatization of the species and the development of colonial agriculture. We also highlight the creation of networks of national correspondents and foreign trade in specimens and information collected during the trips.
