Resumen

Cuando Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (1845-1923) los descubrió, los rayos X causaron fascinación y un gran debate entre la gente a fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX. El estudio de las propiedades de este nuevo tipo de radiación permitió comprender la estructura de la materia. En este trabajo intentaremos resaltar la importancia de comprender este tipo de radiación y guiar al lector hacia una reflexión fundamental: los estudios de rayos X y su aplicación en la identificación de la estructura cristalina, que confluyeron en la interpretación de los enlaces químicos. Si bien no se abordan las justificaciones de los enlaces, será posible que el lector identifique la construcción colectiva que confluirá en esclarecer la forma en que se unen los átomos.
